Would you choose you?

Personally, I expect my doctor to stay as current as possible on medical studies, new drugs available for prescription, etc. I expect this because he/she plays a major role in ensuring my long-lasting health. The last thing I want is a doctor that’s still practicing based on nothing more than what they learned in med school 20 years ago.
Now, think about the people that depend on you for the work you do (your employer, clients, fellow team members, family, etc). Do you think they should have the same expectations of you? Should they expect you to be staying current with your industry topics and practices? I believe that answer is Absolutely!
I wouldn’t choose a Personal Trainer that doesn’t research new developments in exercise programs, dieting, and supplements.
I wouldn’t choose a Financial Planner that doesn’t stay up to date on the options available for investing in my children’s education.
I wouldn’t choose a Leader that doesn’t continue to learn about ways to motivate, encourage, facilitate, and resolve conflicts.
So, would you choose you?

The hard thing about this in the software industry is to you keep up your skills on the things your employer are into or things you might want to get into next?
I have always struggled with this. I have yet to have a job were learning iOS development was needed; but, I choose to keep up with it because I wanted to. I wanted the knowledge and the experience.
I agree with you and I think there is a happy medium between stays sharp on the skills you use everyday and acquiring new skills you may never use at your current place of employment.
I choose you, you had me at hello.
